Inclement Weather Policy
Safety is our number one priority. If winter weather conditions present a threat, the Papillion Recreation Department Reserves the right to postpone or cancel activities.
The Recreation Facilities are community locations that provide services essential to the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of Papillion. During inclement weather City resources need to prioritize services for the safety and wellbeing of all. Weather is unpredictable; therefore, a blanket policy is difficult.
The Department Heads from Recreation and the Library will work with the City Administrator to make a joint decision on closures when situations arise. The main concern in the decision process is the ability to have and maintain safe public/staff access to the facilities. This includes parking and entrances. In all cases essential staff will report for their normal shift unless adjustments to the schedule are made by the Department Heads or they have approval to take leave. Part-time employee schedules will be adjusted in the event of a closure.
Emergency facilities and roadways take priority over both the Recreation and Library facilities for snow removal.
When Papillion-La Vista Schools are closed due to inclement weather:
- The 55+ Club and Bus Services will not open on the day school is canceled.
- A joint decision between the Department Heads to close facilities, cancel programs, classes, rentals and/or leagues will be made prior to opening and closing.
- Decisions will be posted on social media platforms, the website and at the facilities. The Landing will send out an email to notify members as well.
